Research Clusters of the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies
The Research Clusters of the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies bring together scholars from different departments, disciplines, and career stages around shared research questions and methodological approaches. By fostering collaboration across established areas of expertise and emerging fields of inquiry, they strengthen the Faculty’s scholarly profile, increase its international visibility, and contribute to its long-term strategic development.
The clusters also play a central role in connecting research and doctoral education. Working closely with the Doctoral School of Historical and Cultural Studies, they provide doctoral candidates with early and sustained opportunities to engage in collaborative scholarly environments and to develop as independent researchers. Doctoral training is thus embedded within an active intellectual community rather than conceived as a separate educational track. To support this integration, the clusters provide dedicated spaces for exchange and networking. They offer subject-specific courses, establish additional mentoring structures, and manage travel funding within the DSHCS. They foster a the Faculty's culture in which early-career researchers play a key role, contribute meaningfully, and receive strong support.
